Technological Foundation

The Historical Dictionary Project
The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language is a seven-year project. It involved 500 researchers and 200 proofreaders. The dictionary covers 21.5 million words and 351,000 historical citations from 11,300 linguistic roots.
Guinness World Record Achievement
In December 2024, the UAE broke a Guinness World Record with the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language. This record marks it as the largest and most comprehensive historical linguistic project in the world, with 127 volumes. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, received the Guinness World Records certificate. He congratulated all participants, emphasizing the dictionary’s scientific value and significance, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Recognition and Gratitude
Sheikh Sultan highlighted that this recognition honors everyone who contributed to the dictionary, including researchers, scholars, editors, proofreaders, the publishing house, the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, and all involved in Arabic lexicography across the Arab world.
Arabic Language Academy
Located in Sharjah, the academy aims to preserve the Arabic language. Formed after a decree by Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, it focuses on keeping the Arabic language relevant to sciences, technology, literature, and arts. The academy also aims to revive and document Arab heritage and encourage Arabic book publications.
